|link| The RIAA is currently acquiring subpoenas to go after anyone who is sharing files using P2P networks. The link goes to a database maintained by the Electronic Frontier Foundation which will help you discover if you are one of those people being subpoenaed.
Previously it seemed as though all the ISPs were caving in to the RIAA’s demands. Now it appears that SBC is giving the RIAA the big middle finger and counter-suing on behalf of it’s customers. Go get ‘em, SBC!

|link| Morgui was developed to study how humans react to robots, but oddly enough the University of Reading has restricted it to only interacting with those over 18 (unless you have a note from your parents or guardian). From the photo, it looks like they just have to paint him silver and he’ll be set to start terminating.

My apologies to everyone for the server being down for a day. Actually it wasn’t the server being down, I discovered, but rather my eagerness to get more functionality for the site. Bummer. Anyways, I figured it out and it should stay up for now. Thanks to my Scandanavian Friend for pointing out it’s temporary demise!

Hawkeye sends us this bad bad joke.
A woman brought a very limp parrot into the Veterinarian’s office. As she lay her pet on the table, the Vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird’s chest. After a moment or two, the Vet shook his head sadly and said; “I’m so sorry, but Polly has passed away”.
The distressed owner wailed; “Are you sure? I mean, you haven’t done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something?”
The Vet rolled his eyes, shrugged, turned and left the room returning a few moments later with a beautiful black Labrador dog.
As the bird’s owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the dead parrot from top to bottom. He then looked at the Vet with his sad, brown eyes and shook his head. The Vet patted the dog and took it out of the office, but returned a few moments later with a cat!
The cat jumped up and also sniffed delicately at the bird. The cat sat back, shook its head, meowed and ran out of the room. The Vet looked at the woman and said, “I’m sorry. But like I said, your parrot is most definitely, 100% certifiably, dead.”
He then turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill which he handed to the woman. The parrot’s owner, still in shock, took the bill.
“What’s this!” she cried. “$150 just to tell me my bird is dead?”
The vet shrugged. “If you’d taken my word for it the bill would only have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan…”
Good thing the Vet didn’t order a general Pet Scan; who knows how much that would have cost?

Here are a few linguistic related links I’ve found in the past couple days. The first is from Christus Rex, a religious website, which has translated the Lord’s Prayer into “1221 languages and dialects,” many of them obscure or constructed. My *favorite* is the Ebonics version. Yo, Big Daddy Upstairs…
The second link is a game that tests your ability to figure out the etymology of words. Very hard!
Mondegreens are “mishearing of a popular phrase or song lyric” with often comical results. For example “Feliz Navidad” might be heard as “Police naughty dog.” Some of them are quite good, and Jon Carroll has been following them for years.

Before the Star Wars Kids (Windows Media Player required for most videos at site) there was The Gift. Incidently, the parents of the Star Wars Kid (AKA Ghyslain Raza) are suing the parents of the kids who originally posted the video to the internet. So much for the movie deals.
