Asya Schween Photography

|link| Many artist do self portraits. Few of them make them like Asya Schween. Fewer of them make them while only 22 years old and getting a PhD in BioInformatics. Sometimes gruesome, sometimes angelic, but always interesting. Her own website, My Own Self, has hundreds of other pics which, frankly, are better than the pictures on her sales site. There is also an interview which is a good read.

Women in Spacesuits

|link| There are some real freaks out there. This person collects images of women in space suits, scuba gear, and deep sea diving rigs. We can question his sanity, or we can just browse through his really large collection. Even Barbarella made the list (seventh item).

Who’s Feeling Stupid Now?

|link| In this chart of countries with their average IQ we find that the US averages a 98 IQ. The highest was Hong Kong with 107, and the lowest, at 63 (!) tied between Ethiopia and Guinea. Actually Sao Tome/Principe scored lower at 59. The average country (NOT population) is ~84, which really doesn’t speak too well of humanity. Very strangely, North Korea scored an average IQ of 105. They are still stupid.

Sexing Your Computer

As you are aware, ships have long been characterized as being female (e.g., “Steady as she goes”, or “She’s listing to starboard, Captain!”). Recently, a group of computer scientists (all males) announced that computers should also be referred to as being female. Their reasons for drawing this conclusion follow:

Five reasons to believe computers are female:

1. No one but the Creator understands their internal logic.
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
3. The message “Bad command or file name” is about as informative as, “If you don’t know why I’m mad at you, then I’m certainly not going to tell you”.
4. Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for later retrieval.
5. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

However, another group of computer scientists (all female) think that computers should be referred to as if they were male. Their reasons follow:

Five reasons to believe computers are male:

1. They have a lot of data, but are still clueless.
2. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they are the problem.
3. As soon as you commit to one you realize that, if you had waited a little longer, you could have obtained a better model.
4. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
5. Big power surges knock them out for the rest of the night.

Thanks to Hawkeye for this one!

Bush’s Hotmail Account

|link| It looks like someone hacked into W’s Hotmail account… now you can see what it’s like to be the President during difficult times. Note the number of emails from “God”.

Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics

|link| This site covers a variety of things shown in movies that are patently false, such as bullets sparking as they ricochet off objects, the problem with people never getting slashed up by jumping through windows, and the problems with explosions in outer space. There are even reviews of movies that have movie physics ratings (good, bad, insultingly stupid). We leave you with this site which has loads of physics humor links, including cartoon physics.

Hello, My Future Girlfriend

|link| Apparently this is an old link, but WHOA! it’s great! Make sure the audio is turned up (it’s safe for work). I didn’t know whether to laugh at him or feel sorry for him. I think I’ll laugh at him…

T-Shirt Slogans

|link| Slogans that aren’t on the site: “I went to the Fruit of the Loom Factory and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.” “My other shirt is an Armani.” “I’m smiling because they still haven’t found the bodies.”
