George Takei, famous for playing Star Trek’s Hikaru Sulu, will reprise his role in an upcoming episode of Star Trek New Voyages. If you haven’t seen any of the New Voyages check them out. Kind of cheesy, but with an honesty and integrity that I think many Trek fans have been missing for some time now.

So where are all the other episodes? I can only find the one so far.

Nevermind, found them on their discussion boards. No now begins the long and annoying process of converting these out of weird aspect ratios and windows media into correctly formatted QuickTime files for non-headache causing viewing. I may end up formatting them for video iPods and posting them for these guys. It can’t hurt.

And I got permission from them to do just that. Wow, iMovie and Flip4Mac made that easy, too! Now to post them as accessible from my .Mac site, have them link at their downloads page, and run into my 10GB bandwidth cap overnight!
Am I the only one here happy to see these things stripped of their WMV status?

Hey! Put the link here already! No, you’re not the only one that’s excited to see it in a different format…

They’re up on the Episodes page at New Voyages’ site as “Mirror 8 (Ipod files)” Yes they misspelled iPod. They asked that I don’t link from anywhere but there so that they could track the traffic. (that was the only stipulation for my offer, BTW).
There was a little file bloat, but upon inspection I think it was because they allowed the wmv’s to drop frames, whereas my conversion of the files put them right back up to their 30 frame goodness. They’re going to keep me informed about the possibility of podcasting news - I’ll host those as well if they go ahead with it, then RSS the things so that it’ll be easy to get updates.
iWeb makes that easy as well. I swear iLife 06 is one of the coolest application suites from anyone, ever.
Now to re-vamp ZADL in iWeb… and get p.ookee over to a blog using iWeb… and all will be awesomely cool.

We should talk about the ZADL and pookee…
I can’t believe they don’t know the right punctuation for iPod. Are they living in the 20th century? Thinking about what they are doing, I guess they sort of are…!

you know when I said I’d run into my 10GB cap overnight? I was right. Luckily it cost only a small pittance to up it to 250 GB. Booyah.

Dude, shouldn’t they be hosting or offering to mirror this somehow? I mean, I’m glad you did this and I’m glad that so many people are excited about getting it, but this could end up costing you a chunk of change in the long run as you start adding more episodes!
Out of curiosity how much was the upgrade?
February 2nd, 2006 at 5:42 pm
On the firs question - all the hosts are volunteers, so it’s my dime no matter what. That’s kind of what I figured it would be for now - I may get use a different service in the future.
As for the upgrade, I only paid for the difference of my allowance for this year, so about $50. Apple overcharges, but it gives me time to find a cheaper place. I think that the reliability of using Apple’s servers kind of justifies the price, unless I get slashdotted….

New trailer is up at the New Voyages site - DC Fontana’s To Serve All My Days starring Walter Koenig reprising his role as Checkov.
The Downloads page has the site mirrors, and by this evening “iPod” should be spelled correctly. My mirror does indeed have the new trailer on it, in case it’s still grouped incorrectly when you read this. There will be another trailer soon apparently. I will keep you posted.

New Vignette up on the site, a small 5 minute thing featuring the return of Sulu and introducing the guy who gets to play him.
