Aethelred Eldridge Speaks

A professor at Ohio University, Aethelred Eldridge is one of those people you never forget. He always left very interesting pieces of art to be found around campus, inspiring an almost daily scavenger hunt. Very much a unique individual, you can experience him for yourself as he reads William Blake’s Milton.

Oh my freaking god. That’s amazing you posted Æ up! I’ve still got a ton of his pictures (and one “book”). It would be really cool if he had a blog that he posted this stuff up with. Every day a new picture. Maybe I should start doing that with the material I have. I probably have about 100.

Anyways, here’s another link with further examples of his work! And let’s not forget The Wall.

When I was running Grade A Notes in Athens, Old Pointy Clothes would bring in his Golgonooza newsletter/booklet to print, still reeking of Sharpie.

You wouldn’t happen to have kept some of those? Some of us are collectors!

I don’t have the originals - those all went back to him after printing, but I have at least one issue on my bookshelf. :)

Aethelred’s daughter will be selling some of his old prints and booklets in about a month.

Do you happen to know where? Is it back in Athens or (hopefully) online?

I’ve started an AEthelred blog after talking with him on 5/16/2007, when I asked him if he was interested in having a web site, he stated, “I am not here to sell things, I am not here to give things away, I am here to see what transpires.”

I will be posting a new image every day from my collection, AEthelred is also going to continue to provide work to me periodically for posting, and I’m hoping to add audio and video as I move ahead with the Blog, spread the word

That is so-o super awesome! What years are your collection from? Maybe it will inspir me to finally scan in what I have and send them your way. I’ve got piles of the stuff from when I was at OU from 88 - 92…

I was at OU from 00-04 and attended his classes as much as possible, I visited Eldridge at his home and was fortunate to be given a number of booklets ranging from #8 and #10, which are bound by red string, through copies from recent years, along with a rare 8 page page pamphlet titled “Everything you’ll ever need to know about whatever took place on Jan. 27 ‘93″… I’ll be posting everything I’ve got, plus I am arranging to do some documentary work int he near future to include audio and video… anyways, if anyone is interested in contributing to the blog that would be great

i attended AE’s class yesterday and went out to his property afterwards, i was able to shoot great photos and obtain many, many books or “AEthel-grams”… I will be scanning everything and posting online, originals from the 70s and beyond, including the original pamphlet of the Church of William Blake… in the near future I will begin documentary and archival work with AE. See the Blog for up to date photos and information… http://albionawake.org/
