There are tons of great songs out there, and some of them get covered by other bands and get a second life. Of course some of them suck. What are your favorite cover songs?

Snake River Conspiracy’s cover of The Smith’s How Soon is Now?
The also did a good take on The Beatles’ She Said, She Said

Hard choice. I guess my current favorite is Jimmy Eat World’s cover of the Wedding Present’s Spangle.

I know a lot of covers that are actually quite good. My Way covered by Sid Vicious. Although a lot of people didn’t like it I do like Lost in Space by Apollo 440. One by Aimee Mann seems to surface in the back of my brain periodically. However, I think my very favorite cover ever is Superman (from REM) covered by EOD or Not Bill. Classic.

Though maybe not my favorite, My Way by Sid is a classic.

I’ve got way too many. Here we go.
Straight Outta Compton by Nina Gordon,
She Said, She Said by the Black Keys
Think For Yourself by Ted Leo
Hybrid Moments by Drag the River
and I know it doesn’t really count, since it’s a whole album but Seu Jorge’s The Life Aquatic - Studio Sessions is an amazing piece of work, and I think I actually like his Queen Bitch more than Bowie’s.
And while I know this has gone on too long already, I have to include one more song that’s kind of cheating. You all probably know Rod Stewart’s Downtown Train, but those of you who have heard Tom Waits’ original version will know what that song can sound like when it doesn’t suck.

I can’t believe I forgot Baby Got Back by Jonathan Coulton!
