“DRM” scrapped, Not Enough of a Euphemism

HBO has hinted that they are considering replacing the term “Digital Rights Management” with “Digital Consumer Entertainment” (on the heels of the Digg Revolt that at least should have told media execs that people not only hate DRM with a passion, but will do whatever they can to subvert it).  DCE will be more restrictive and proprietary than even DRM was.  “Enabling,” indeed.  The argument that DRM/DCE is the real-world Newspeak, limiting content by limiting options, is gaining validity daily.

Nice first post. I’m fresh back from an internet-less world otherwise I’m sure I would have commented earlier.

This is just another example of how subtly evil these people are when it comes to taking away freedoms. They must be taking a queue from the Republican party. “I know, let’s make it easier for corporations to pollute and call it ‘Clear Skies’ because then people will think it’s good for them.”

Idiots. Let’s just hope the internet denizens make enough of a stink about it that the MSM actually stops parroting this new sound bite.

Should we rename piracy to “Consumer Choice Enhancement”?
