"People have criticized me because my security detail is larger than the president's. But you must ask yourself: are there more people who want to kill me than who want to kill the president? I can assure you there are."

12 Days of Nerdiness

My Dad sent me this. I can’t imagine why he thought I’d enjoy it so…

Maybe because it mentions Atari…? Also, many apologies for posting something about XMas before the first of December. I had to post this now, though, before I forgot.

Passengers are Reminded….

It appears that the sultry voice of the London Tube system has been fired. After years of being the iconic voice that reminds passengers to “mind the gap” it seems that Emma Clarke felt it was time to record some spoof announcements and was sacked for her troubles.

Too bad really, because I’d have liked to have heard things like this.

I Can Has Sweet Potato?

What if your dog could speak? And what if your dog likes sweet potato? Raw?

Dog: I am starving.
Me: Actually, no. You aren’t starving. You get two very good meals a day. And treats. And Best Beloved fed you extra food while I was gone.
Dog: STARVING.
Me: I saw you get fed not four hours ago! You are not starving.
Dog: Pity me, a sad and tragic creature, for I can barely walk, I am so starving. WOE.
Me: I am now ignoring you.
Dog: STARVING.
Dog: Did you hear me? I am starving.
Dog: Are you seriously ignoring me? Fine.

[There is a pause, during which the dog exits the room in a pointed manner.]

[From the kitchen, there comes a noise like someone is eating a baseball bat.]

Me, yelling: What the hell are you doing?
Me: *makes haste for the kitchen and finds dog there*
Dog: *picks up entire raw sweet potato, which is what was causing the baseball bat noise, and flees for the bedroom*
Me: *chases dog, retrieves most of sweet potato, less the portion which has disappeared into dog’s gullet*
Dog: See? STARVING.

And there is still more to the story.

Burial At Sea

I’m sure we’ve all heard of a burial at sea. There are many ways of going about it, from weighing down the body wrapped in cloth and elaborate ceremonies and speeches, or simply dumping the poor sod overboard. The Neptune Society has a new idea, though. Create and artificial reef with weird Atlantean architecture and bury people there.

I’m not sure what I think about it. On one hand the idea is novel and interesting. On the other they won’t take bodies, only cremated remains, and I think finding a body down there would be kind of cool. Also it would make it hard to visit and have a drink at the grave of the dearly departed.

Would you want to be buried underwater?

Awesome SciFi Things that would Suck

I know the title is confusing but it comes down to this… Science fiction has thought up tons of really cool things that people often think it would be awesome to have. Yet if these things existed in real life they would cause more problems than they would solve. Take, for example, the Star Trek’s (among others) holodeck.

We’re thinking if aliens showed up to Earth 1,000 years after the invention of the holodeck, they’d find a silent planet with 10 billion mummified corpses laying on the floor of 10 billion dusty holodecks, with huge smiles on their faces.

I think you can imagine just what that huge smile signifies… Anything missing from the list at the link? I’m thinking light sabers. It sounds cool until someone loses an eye (and has it cauterized in the process)!

Worst Song Ever

I don’t know who the hell came up with this song and I’m not sure how they convinced someone to unleash it on the world, but they did and so now you can check it out, too. Precursor to Who Let the Dogs Out?

Geography Quiz

This is a pretty cool geography quiz. You’re scored on both your accuracy and how quickly you answer. Can you make it through all 12 levels?

Harder Better Faster Stronger

Two young ladies dance to Daft Punk’s Harder Better Faster Stronger. At first I thought it was going to be one of the amateur videos with scantily clad women dancing with weird tin foil helmets on. In fact, that’s what this is, but somehow so much better. Nice job, ladies! And thanks to Deano for the link!

Where Motorcycles Come From

As a recent cyclist myself, I started doing some research into the world of motorcycles, their history, etc. Imagine my delight when I came across a video describing exactly how the Triumph Rocket III is born and raised.

I like to think that my own Triumph Thruxton was made the same way! The video is from Rubberdctions; visit their site to see more great videos!
