"What I know is unofficial; What he knows is official. I have the right to private judgment, but he has none. He must disclose all, or he is a traitor to his service." - Sherlock Holmes
Not long ago McCain compared Obama to all the loser trash celebrities out there, specifically singling out Paris Hilton. Personally I think McCain was way off but you know these politicians… Not the most brilliant folks on the planet (else the planet would be a much better place, neh?). Anyways, Paris has struck back with a video of her own, and while not terribly funny, it’s pretty good. I’m hoping someone pays to put it on TV.
Sadly, though her proposed energy plan sounds good, it’s just as stupid as any that includes off-shore drilling.
1: It takes years to build platforms, drill, start collecting oil, etc, so it won’t “tide us over” at all.
2: The US doesn’t have a nationalized oil company, so any oil that is drilled here goes on the world market, not just to Americans, so the increase in production would do us no good. US oil companies already sell 75% of the oil collected here to other countries. They go where the market is, and patriotism has nothing to do with capitalism.
3: The oil companies already have millions of acres of land that they’re not drilling, and by all accounts those millions of acres have more oil than the Atlantic Shelf. Why not drill on land they already own, and that is more easily accessible?
4: Hurricanes Katrina and Rita were responsible for the spillage of 9.5 millions of gallons of oil, and over 100 platforms were destroyed. It’s hardly a risk free venture.
Other than that, I thought the ad was hysterical, and apparently so did Jonathan Sidney McCain III (who owns 9 homes, wears $580 shoes, and whose wife flies around on a private jet because “it’s the only way to get around Arizona”). I also think it’s hysterical the way that McCain accuses Obama of being the elitist.
Actually, Paris is much like McCain. They’re just two different *kinds* of idiot. Paris can be fun to laugh at, though; whereas McCain isn’t funny at all.

Paris obviously has some marketing savvy… she can turn anything into a PR boost for herself
