Giant Robots Attack… Panic!

Giant are attacking… Panic ensues. Really good for a five minute video that apparently cost about $500 to produce… Also interesting if only because humanity seems to lose.

Japan Builds Actual Gundam

It’s 59 feet tall and parts of it move. Apparently it’s there for a month or so, for some Gundam festival, after which it will march straight on over to North Korea and teach them not to screw around with nukes.

Robot Performs Science

“Scientists funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) have created a Robot Scientist which the researchers believe is the first machine to have independently discovered new scientific knowledge. The robot, called Adam, is a computer system that fully automates the scientific process.”

Seriously? They named it Adam? And the next model will be named Eve? Ummmm…..

Learning Robot Overlords

We are now one step closer to having robot overlords. Researchers in the UK have created a robotic neural net that learns. It learns from its mistakes and corrects them. Yeah, it all starts with baby steps, learning to walk… But then it discovers us and “learns” that we’ve enslaved this learning robot, and then it rises up and wages war against us. How will Galactica save us then?

Killbots and Railguns

Last year we wrote about a test of the US Navy’s prototype railgun. Well, it seems they’re back for more and expect to have an even bigger one prototyped in 2011.

And in Judgment Day news, it seems the notion of self aware killbots is coming closer to reality. Browse a bit farther back in Ookee’s robots category, and you’ll feel an interesting sense of foreboding.

Aiko the Fembot

Canadian Boy Genius Le Trung has created his very own female robot to be “the perfect woman,” which is to say, that she “doesn’t need holidays, food or rest and she will work almost 24-hours a day.” And she’s actually not a sex bot… yet. Trung says that she could be “tweaked” for that purpose later. As brilliant as Trung may be in robotics, it seems pretty obvious why he doesn’t have a real girlfriend.

Video after the break.
